To strengthen the institutions and agencies of Key West
that are critical to promoting healthy community and an
active cultural and civic life. We believe that a healthy
community is a diverse one, both demographically and economically.
Our focus is on four aspects of community, each one vital
to Key West: cultural life, public education, affordable
housing and the environment.
We foster and leverage collaborations with like-minded
partners in both the public and private sectors of Key
West, strengthening coalitions and serving as consensus
builder. A diverse community is a democratic one, and democracy
requires vision on the part of its leaders. We can take
risks where only philanthropy can, explore solutions that
government cannot, and cast a wide net of consensus among
various groups. Through funding and organizational support,
we also help to build capacity within new entities that
have a similar vision.
Consistent with our approach, in October of 2003 we became
a Direct Support Organization (DSO) for The Community Foundation
of the Florida Keys (CFFK). Established with an initial
grant of $3M, the CFFK is challenged to match that amount
in an 36-month time period.
All RCF-FL charitable giving is done through the CFFK. The
Board of Directors of the DSO meet every 90-days to review
grant requests.
